Example of a complete solution from Variobotic

In this application example from the "bin picking" sector, several work steps could be automated with an intelligent solution.

The supply hopper drops the components onto the "Varioshaker 270", which then separates them using vibration. The vision system then recognizes the individual parts and transmits this data to the Dobot. With the help of an EGP end effector, the Dobot picks up the components for further processing.

With the help of the various robot components, an intelligent solution was created.

The All-in-One Package for optimal part separation

The VarioFeed from Variobotic enables a simple and flexible feeding solution that is also cost-effective. The Advanced combination consists of the VarioShaker 270 component separator, the DOBOT M1 (Pro) robot, as well as a feeding system and an image processing solution. The DOBOT M1 industrial robot impresses in the solution with high accuracy (+- 0.02 mm) and, together with the VarioShaker 270, achieves up to 20 picks/min. The application is characterized by simple operation and fast commissioning. The all-in-one package allows various work steps to be automated, such as in the pick and place area.

Multflexible low cost solution for part sorting

The VarioShaker 270 component separator offers a multiflexible application for partial sorting. A special feature of the system is that several types of components can be separated by the system. This means that a new system does not have to be designed and built for each component. It creates a fully automated process that requires little operator supervision. In addition, the system can operate autonomously for several hours, making it suitable for multi-shift operation. The fully integrated solution through defined interfaces allows the machine to be expanded for subsequent processes. Thus, the system remains flexible and adapts to any production and component.

In the first step, pins that are unsorted as bulk material pass through a vibratory hopper onto the VarioShaker 270, which separates the components. After the components have been identified by an image processing system in the correct position, the SCARA robot can pick up the parts through the swivel axis and sort them into a finished pallet. The finished pallet is now ready for further processing.

Automated quality control with the help of vision systems is becoming increasingly popular because of the massive cost savings that can be achieved. The customer in this test deals with such vision systems and wanted to combine them with gantries to automate the inspection of circuit boards.

igus gantries contain pre-configured drylin linear modules and linear axes with igus stepper motors as well as all the components required for self-assembly. Typical applications of our gantry robots are pick and place, conveyor belt picking and stacking tasks in multi-dimensional space. Our gantries are largely made of our tribologically optimised plastics and enable high cost savings.

In this application, a pick and place task was realised with a spatial gantry in combination with a camera system. The camera makes the application more intelligent, as the components to be gripped no longer always have to be in the same position, but are identified independently by the robot. This makes the whole system more fail-safe and flexible.

This smart solution both relieves employees and reduces costs, as the robot can work in 3-shift operation. Thus, the investment pays for itself within a few months.

In this fantastic application, the SCHUNK company has fully automated a pick & place task using various components. For this, the UR3e jointed-arm robot was equipped with a SCHUNK SGC system and positioned next to a Varioshaker 270. The special feature of the SGC is that it is a system that includes both a gripper and a camera system that is perfectly matched to it, with the help of which the robot finds the components on the Varioshaker. With its vibration function, the Varioshaker makes it possible to realign the components on top. This is necessary if components are in an unfavourable gripping position or inadmissible alignment.

In addition to the actual pick & place task, an error prevention function has also been integrated into the system with the Varioshaker, which avoids additional idle costs, downtimes and manual readjustment of the components.

In this pick and place application, very small rings have to be gripped and then placed at a specific position. For the implementation, a 3-axis spatial gantry robot was equipped with a small parts gripper and an object recognition sensor. The sensor detects the parts, whereupon the gantry picks up the small parts with the gripper and places them in the box. In this way, the robot, end effector and camera system work together reliably.
