Technical Highlights of the Dobot Nova 5 with DSC Controller
The Dobot Nova 5 with DSC Controller combines a 5 kg payload, 850 mm working radius and ±0.05 mm repeatability in a compact collaborative robot designed for space-constrained automation environments. Compared to previous Nova versions equipped with the CC-Box controller, the DSC Controller adds functional safety according to ISO 13849-1 PLd Cat.2, native PROFINET and EtherNet/IP communication, and expanded I/O capacity with 16 digital inputs and 16 digital outputs. The lightweight design, compact controller and flexible mounting options make the Nova 5 suitable for machine tending, assembly, inspection and material handling applications where industrial communication and safety functions are required.

What applications can be automated with the Dobot Nova 5?
The Nova 5 is designed for handling, assembly and inspection tasks involving components up to 5 kg. Typical applications include machine loading and unloading, pick-and-place operations, quality inspection, packaging, laboratory automation and material handling. Its combination of extended reach, industrial-grade repeatability and collaborative operation makes it suitable for electronics manufacturing, automotive suppliers, logistics, consumer goods production and laboratory environments. The robot is particularly useful where installation space is limited but higher payload capacity than the Nova 2 is required. For heavy-duty processing tasks, large parts or applications requiring significant process forces, a larger industrial robot may be a more suitable choice.

Setting Up and Programming the Dobot Nova 5
The Dobot Nova 5 is configured and programmed using DobotStudio Pro, which supports setup via PC, Android and iOS devices as well as the optional TP10 Teach Pendant. Industrial integration is simplified through support for PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU communication protocols. Users can create applications using graphical programming with DobotBlockly or implement more advanced automation logic using Lua-based scripting and Python APIs. Additional features such as conveyor tracking, vision commands, simulation with a virtual controller and parallel task execution help reduce commissioning time and simplify integration into manufacturing environments.

Is the Dobot Nova 5 Suitable for Your Specific Application?
The Nova 5 with DSC controller is a strong choice for companies looking to automate repetitive handling, assembly or inspection processes involving lightweight to medium-weight components. Its 5 kg payload and 850 mm reach provide greater flexibility than the Nova 2 while maintaining the same collaborative design and ±0.05 mm repeatability. The robot is particularly well suited for machine builders, integrators and manufacturers requiring compact automation cells with direct PLC connectivity through PROFINET or EtherNet/IP. Applications demanding higher payloads, longer reach or intensive process forces may require larger collaborative or industrial robots.

With RBTX from a Single Robot to a Complete Automation Solution
The Dobot Nova 5 can be expanded on the RBTX Marketplace with compatible grippers, vacuum systems, vision cameras, sensors, safety technology and additional automation components from a wide range of manufacturers. This allows handling, inspection, machine tending and assembly applications to be configured according to specific process requirements. In addition to purchasing the robot as a standalone component, users can configure a complete automation solution through RBTX. Robot, gripper, camera system, safety equipment, base frame and peripheral devices can be combined into a coordinated robotic cell, reducing engineering effort and simplifying project planning for new automation deployments.
